Getting Started in Synchronized Swimming
Grassroots programs are the foundation for USA Synchro's Olympic success.
Find a club in your area or email USA Synchro for help. Member clubs offer opportunities for all experience levels, from beginner to elite.
Most young synchronized swimmers start competing in local meets with their clubs. More experienced competitors participate in Association meets – there are 37 Synchro Associations in the country. Teams with qualifying scores in Association meets are invited to one of four Zone meets, and from there they can advance to the National Championships.
Joining USA Synchro
You must be a member of USA Synchro to participate in sanctioned events. Membership provides liability insurance during sanctioned competitions. You can download membership forms online.
Major Events
There is a National Championship for Juniors (18 and under), where the Junior National Team is selected, and Seniors (no age requirement), where the Senior National Team is selected. The Age Group National Championship is for juniors who do not qualify for Junior Nationals. World Championships are also held for Juniors and Seniors. The Masters National and World Championships are recreational events for synchronized swimmers in age divisions from 19 and over.
Becoming a U.S. Olympian
USA Synchronized Swimming names a total of nine athletes to its Olympic Team, including the two who will swim the duet event. Athletes may qualify for the Olympic games by their performance at Olympic trials.
Selection procedures vary greatly from sport to sport. Please contact your sport’s National Governing Body for complete selection criteria.
